Companies Commission of Malaysia (“CCM”) has introduced of a new format of registration number containing 12 digit characters for business entities registered with them effective 11 October 2019.

The above implementation is in line with the Government’s initiative to use single registration format for Business Entities in Malaysia. Business Entities could obtain the new registration format from SSM’s portal such as e-Search, e-info and MyData services for free from the Implementation Date.

The purpose of this notification is to enable your Company to take note of the changes which will impact your operations especially if you intend to re-order your letters heads, stationery, invoices and signboards etc.

During the transition period, you are allowed to use the existing registration number for transactions involving other agencies as well as on official letters, invoices, signboards and other printed documents. However, throughout the transition period, you are encouraged to display the existing registration number along with the new format [Eg: AMS Setia Jaya Sdn. Bhd. Registration No: 201901000005 (1312525-A)] and the new registration number format will be applied fully once a notice is issued by the SSM.

• What is the new format of CCM business entity registration number?

  This new business registration number format will replace the existing business registration number at CCM. The new business registration number format includes 12 digit characters, namely:

  • 4 digits – years of business entity registered
  • 2 digits – business entity code
  • 6 digits – sequence number

• What is the purpose of implementing this new registration number?

  This is a national-level government initiative to introduce a single registration format applicable throughout Malaysia.

  This new format consist of the following characters:-

  • Contains 12 digit number similar to the National Identity Card Number
  • With a value in terms of displaying the existence of companies, businesses and LLPs in the industry based on the year of registration; and
  • To set the limit for the registration number which then simplifies system development compared to the unlimited setting of registration numbers.
• Will the existing registration number be affected with this new format?

  Yes. Display of the registration number format is as follows:

• Are the business entities allowed to use the existing registration number and when will the usage of the new registration number format begin?

  Yes. Business entities can still use the existing registration numbers. It can still be used for transactions involving other Agencies as well as an official letters, invoices, signboards andother printed documents. However, the business entities are encouraged to use the new registration number format.

  The new registration number format will be applied fully once a notice is issued.
